The Palace of Auburn Hills Detroit, MI Things seemed to be going fine for LeBron James and his Cavaliers Saturday night. Down only 16 at halftime to the Detroit Pistons, 33-49, the game was going just how the Cavs had planned. "We were really clicking in that first half man. I just felt in sync and was letting it go," LeBron said. "Sometimes your just feeling it." Then the unexpected...
Unbeknownst to LeBron, who sizzled in the first half scoring 5 points on 2-11 shooting, the lights were about to go out. Literally. As LeBron rose up for a jump shot at the 9:56 mark in the 3rd quarter, the lights in the arena were turned off. After some discussion between the officials, Denny's was chosen as the post game restaurant and the game was allowed to continue in complete darkness.
William Davidson, the environmentally conscientious owner of the Detroit Pistons, had secrely pledged to the Austrailian World Wildlife Fund to participate in Earth Hour, an event where households and businesses turn off their lights and non-essential electrical appliances for one hour. After the game Davidson responded to the media, "I felt it important to show that even billionaires such as myself are responsible for taking care of our planet. It also really saved me a lot of money on my energy bill." When asked about the reported 913 injuries and 4 deaths in the trample for the exits, Davidson insisted it was worth it, "Environmental damage caused by greenhouse gasses is only one part of the problem. We are vaslty overpopulated and I had hoped this event might help in that regard as well."
Despite the darkness and the high pitched squeeling of children and women the Cavs nearly rallied, losing 85-71. LeBron, who finished 4-17 with 13 points and 5 turnovers insisted the lack of light was not the problem. "You know, I shoot with my eyes closed most of the time anyway, so it really didn't bother me."
After the game, LeBron signed a contact with GE to promote their new line of Compact Flourescent lightbulbs. LeBron Promotes GE Lightbulbs Add as favourites (98) | Quote this article on your site | Views: 1786
